きもん【鬼門】

1 〔方角〕 the “demon's gate”; the northeastern quarter; an unlucky [a tabooed] quarter.

●鬼門よけのお札(_ふだ) a charm to protect against misfortunes arising from (a house having) an unlucky [a northeastern] exposure.

●鬼門に当たる face northeast.

●鬼門を避ける avoid [shun] an unlucky direction [exposure]

・鬼門をよけて家を建てる build a house so as to avoid an unlucky exposure.
